Mountain Lion Hunts

If your’e looking for a Trophy Mountain Lion Hunt! Then Give us a call!  We partner with the best Mountain lion Hunting guides.

The mountain lion is a creature of many names.  Known as a puma in Latin America and called panther, cougar, and catamount in parts of the United States, it is all the same animal.  The second largest cat in North America, only topped by the jaguar, it has the widest range of any land mammal in the Western Hemisphere.  It’s distribution ranges from southwestern Canada, throughout the western US, into Mexico and down through Central America.  Males are generally 6 to 8 feet long including the tail, and a mature male will average 150 pounds weight.  In general, weights are heavier in the more northern regions of mountain lion ranges. It is widely disputed what a typical mountain lion range is – estimates vary from 10 square miles to over 300. What we do know is that mountain lions are generally solitary animals with large home ranges.  Their main diet is usually deer, but they also hunt elk, pronghorns, and small game.   Legacy Outdoors offers high quality mountain lion hunts in North America. We only work with the most reputable hunting outfitters in a region. Choosing the type of mountain lion hunt!

Mountain lion hunts are almost exclusively done with the use of a pack of hounds. These hunts can be very physical, from getting up early to ride in trucks, ATV’s, snowmobiles, horses or mules while looking for a fresh track, to following the chase, and then finally hiking to where the mountain lion is treed can take a toll on you.  The areas mountain lions inhabit is often broken country, with steep timbered ridges, deep canyons, steep cliffs, and usually several inches of snow on the ground.  The hunt begins with finding a fresh track to turn the dogs out on. From there, enjoy hearing the music of the hounds as the chase begins. Mountain lions will generally not go too far before they tree – they do not have the lung capacity to run for miles on end.  Then your work begins to get into the area the mountain lion has treed. It’s quite exciting to see the treed mountain lion up close and personal. Shots are typically close – we even have many clients choose to use their bow to harvest their mountain lion.  Legacy Outdoors can tailor a hunt to suit almost anyone. So, whatever your abilities are, after a discussion, we can find the perfect hunt for you. No matter what kind of mountain lion hunt you’re looking, for we’ve got you covered.
